Nissan developing limited run GT-R with Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt aka ‘Lightning Bolt’, became the world’s highest paid athlete after his medal spree at the 2012 London Olympics. He is partnering Nissan to create a one-off gold Nissan GT-R for charity that will have Bolt’s signature embossed on it and features interior fittings finished in real gold. 

The gold Nissan GT-R will be auctioned on eBay and its proceeds which will be announced later in October 2012 will be used to create educational and cultural opportunities for children and young people in the Olympic champion's home country of Jamaica.

Bolt has signed a special deal with Nissan to extend his role as brand ambassador for the Nissan GT-R. Bolt is now the ‘Director of Excitement’ for the company’s ambitious global marketing drive. 

As part of the partnership, Bolt will work with Nissan’s product specialists to develop a limited edition GT-R. Bolt said, "Racing is my inspiration, and I want to help Nissan become an even more exciting brand for everyone."

At present, Bolt is developing a Nissan GT-R for his personal use after spending a week at Nissan’s proving grounds near Oppama, Japan. Nissan has recorded his reaction times, acceleration and handling capabilities to develop the special ‘Bolt GT-R’.   

Bolt will also contribute to Nissan’s ‘WHAT IF’ global brand campaign featuring Nissan's iconic products and breakthrough technologies, a part of the company's Power 88 mid-term business plan that is aimed at capturing eight per cent market share and eight per cent operating margins.

Toshiyuki Shiga, Chief Operating Officer, welcomed Bolt's endorsement and deepening ties with Nissan by saying, "Nissan shares the spirit of excitement that captivated worldwide audiences at the Olympics. There is no one better qualified than Usain Bolt to help us translate that spirit into great experiences."
