The 2014 Nissan Navara pick-up has been teased online and more details will be revealed next week

Nissan Navara teaser

Just yesterday we reported that Nissan will be betting big on their SUV models in India and as if on cue the Japanese carmaker teased their next big global launch online. The automobile major released a new video online which gives a glimpse of their soon to be unveiled Nissan Navara, which is its global pick-up model.

And what’s even more interesting for the Indian enthusiasts is that Nissan has hinted that it could be introducing a full-sized SUV based on the Nissan Navara platform. The new Nissan seven-seater SUV would rival international SUV models such as the popular Toyota Fortuner. In a similar fashion, the Toyota SUV shares its platform with sibling Toyota Hilux pick-up.

Recently the new Chairman for Nissan (India, Middle East and Africa), Takashi Hata, revealed that he believes SUVs can help the company make a mark in India. Especially since Nissan is one the most successful SUV maker the world over.

Nissan Qashqai coming to India

Currently, Nissan India has just the Nissan Terrano compact-SUV as part of its India line-up. The previous generation Nissan X-Trail was the other SUV offering, which has been discontinued in India earlier this year.  The latest generation X-trail might make a comeback, along with the Qashqai which will be assembled locally.

Talking about an all-new SUV, Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Global, hinted that he wouldn’t rule out an SUV based on the new Nissan Navara. He added that an SUV model and a pick-up vehicle have common traits like having good durability, reliability and quality.

Nissan is quiet likely to bring in a full-sized seven-seater SUV to tap on the rapidly growing demand for these vehicles in India. But, only time can predict whether the new offering will be an SUV based on the Nissan Navara platform.
