The Baku City Circuit saw Rosberg win unchallenged throughout the race, while his teammate struggled to find the right setting for his car and finished fifth

Formula 1 at Baku City Circuit

Rosberg dominated the Inaugural race at Baku City Circuit. The German racecar driver took the lead on the first lap of the race and led the pack throughout without any fight from the following Ferrari driven by Sebastian Vettel. Sebastian then led the rest of the pack and the battle was down to the ‘best of the rest’; he ultimately claimed the second spot. The third spot was clinched by Sergio Perez of Force India, who fought his way out for third as Raikkonen suffered an ERS problem on the last lap.

Lewis Hamilton had a fairly woeful day at the Baku circuit, as the Brit started tenth on the grid and quickly rose to the fourth spot. But he was ultimately restricted to fifth because of an ERS problem that wouldn't let him overtake Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton eventually found the right setting on his steering wheel to get him back in the business, however, he lost valuable laps while doing so and was no longer able to continue his charge. The Baku race has pushed Lewis backward by a staggering 24 points compared to his teammate, Nico, on the championship chart.

Raikkonen stood at fourth place and sustained a five-second penalty as he crossed the pit line without entering the pit lane. He was tailed by the Perez who was certainly going to get the third position because of the penalty.

The sixth spot was taken by Bottas for his team William, while his teammate Felipe Massa took the tenth spot. Interestingly, both the Red Bull driver, Daniel Ricciardo, and Max Verstappen stood at seventh and eighth, respectively. Moreover, both the Red Bull cars were riding on same durable medium tyres.

As far as championship points go, Rosberg rules the roost with his 141 points, followed by Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen and Ricciardo with their 117, 96, 81 and 78, respectively. If constructors’ points are taken into consideration, Mercedes leads at 258 points to 177 of Ferrari, followed by Red Bull, Williams and Force India.
