Renault Kadjar SUV

Renault has now officially debuted the Kadjar at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Thanks to the Nissan-Renault alliance, the Kadjar shares a lot of its components with the Nissan Qashqai SUV.

With the Kadjar, Renault has tried to bring together the strengths of an SUV, an estate car as well as a sedan. The French manufacturer claims that the Kadjar is a car that feels equally at home in the city as well as in the country. At 4,450mm in length, 1,840mm width and 1,600mm height, it is wider and longer than the Duster but not as tall.

Under the hood, the Kadjar will be offered in two diesel engine options and one turbocharged petrol mill. One of the engine options will be the same one that we have seen on the Duster, the 1.5-litre 110PS unit but with steel pistons in order to reduce friction and hence keep the emissions in check as well. The Kadjar will also come with a slightly larger 1.6-litre oil burner that makes 130 horses and 320Nm. Going with the trend of downsizing engines to increase efficiency without losing out on the performance, the Kadjar will come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit. In this state of tune, the Kadjar makes 132PS and 205Nm.

With a ground clearance of 190mm and an approach and departure angle of 18 and 25 degrees respectively it has been designed to take on rough terrains. It will be offered in both two-wheel drive as well as 4-wheel drive options.

Set to go on sale in the European countries by mid-2015, Renault claims that the Kadjar has been designed keeping in mind the increasing demand for cars in this segment. The Kadjar will be the first of the Renault models to be produced in China. The Chinese model is expoected to make its way to Indian shores.
