Owing to popular demand, Volvo will bring in the new XC90 sooner than planned but before that, the official India preview has been scheduled for May 12

2015 Volvo XC9

Volvo has some ambitious sales targets for India this year. They have already launched the petrol variant of the V40 Cross Country last month and intend to bring in a few more models in this quarter. But they are bidding high on their luxury SUV – the XC90. Set to be launched later this month, Volvo will debut the XC90 in India for the first time on May 12.

The launch was initially planned for September, but the Swedish car maker decided to bring the date forward owing to popular demand. Volvo will bring two variants of the 2015 XC90 to Indian shores – the Momentum and the Inscription. Both these variants will be marginally different as far as exterior styling and features are concerned. The lower Momentum variant comes equipped with keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, electrically operated boot lid, cornering headlights, and reversing camera. On the inside, it sports a 12.3-inch centre console, tyre pressure indicator on the instrument cluster and a navigation system. The higher Inscription variant will be more heavily loaded and has a unique grille upfront, dual integrated headlights, heads up display, leather dashboard and Bowers & Wilkins music system with air-ventilated sub woofers.

Both these variants will come with the new Volvo D5 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit that makes 228PS and 470Nm and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 Volvo XC90 will compete against Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and will be priced around Rs 65-70 lakh in India.
