Nissan's new X-Trail is indeed striking to look at and comes loaded with a host of new features that will keep occupants a lot more entertained and safe

New Nissan X-Trail

Carlos Ghosn, Nissan President and CEO recently took the wraps off the striking New Nissan X-Trail at the 2013 Frankfurt. Featuring the ‘U’ shaped chrome design cue on the centre of the grille, the new X-Trail wears Nissan’s new family design language.

The boxy proportions of its predecessor are gone and the new X-Trail wears its curved body contours rather well therein appearing more modern. It would be worth mentioning that the new X-Trial carries the design inspiration from its crossover siblings, the Qashqai, Juke and Murano rather well.

The headlights on the new X-Trail get daytime running LEDs while the headlights themselves get LEDs for both low and high beam in the top-end variants along with 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin gets a premium touch with chrome, geometric metallic and piano black finishes. Upholstery options include cloth fabric covering and a full leather offering with contrasting stitch accents. The front seats get a new design and a large central storage box. The spacious interior has a five seater layout with the option of two extra seats to make room for seven inside. The extended wheelbase provides more rear legroom with a reclining and sliding seat on the new X-Trail, also the rear doors now open 80 degrees for easy access to child seats.

The new X-Trail also gets a double load floor that allows an inbuilt board to separate the lower portion of the boot thereby creating a usable upper load surface for smaller, lighter items.

New Nissan X-Trail

Nissan’s new X-Trail is loaded with the latest generation NissanConnect in-car navigation, information and entertainment system. In its latest form, NissanConnect has evolved to offer Smartphone connectivity with access to a projected range of apps covering music, social networking, entertainment and travel through a large, 7-inch colour touch screen.

The latest generation satellite navigation integrates with Google to reveal a host of useful information from weather forecasts to the location of fuel stations, hotels, restaurants and other points of interest. The send-to-car function also allows drivers to plan a trip at home and send it to their in-car NissanConnect system at the click of a button. The system is also equipped with Bluetooth audio streaming and mobile phone integration as well as Aux-in and USB slots for added convenience.

The new X-Trail is loaded with the company’s All Mode 4x4i electronic four-wheel drive system that allows drivers to choose between two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and an Auto mode that sends power to the rear wheels in case there is loss of traction.

The new Nissan X-Trail also features active ride control, active engine brake, traction control, uphill start support and advance hill descent control. Active ride control alters damper settings automatically to provide a more stable ride, active engine brake provides engine braking automatically and traction control brakes individual wheel/s to prevent the vehicle from skidding on slippery surfaces.

Built on the new jointly developed Nissan/Renault Common Module Family (CMF) platform architecture, the new Nissan X-Trail will be built across nine locations and sold in 190 countries worldwide. Nissan has worked on shedding weight wherever possible and has even resorted to a tailgate largely made of plastic to keep the vehicle’s weight as low as possible for better performance and efficiency.

The new X-Trail will be launched in the first quarter of 2014 with worldwide sales starting in July 2014 and Nissan will be revealing engine details and the model line-up closer to the time of launch.
