Mahindra’s new compact SUV has been christened the TUV300 and will be launched in mid-September. This new SUV will be sub 4-meter and will go up against the Ford Ecosport. This new SUV was originally codenamed U301 and will not replace the Bolero as we had reported earlier

Mahindra has announced the name for its all-new compact sub 4-meter SUV. This new car will be called the TUV3OO and will feature a 1.5-litre engine to avail of the excise duty cuts. The new SUV will go up against the Ford Ecosport and will be launched in mid-September. The new compact SUV, the Mahindra TUV3OO follows the XUV5OO nomenclature is actually pronounced ‘T-U-V Three, Double O(Oh)’ and not ‘TUV-Three Hundred’.

Although not much has been announced about the Mahindra TUV3OO, the design team did explain how this new compact SUV would in fact follow Mahindra’s strategy of tough SUVs instead of sleeker soft roaders. The Mahindra design team has also taken help from legendary Italian design firm Pininfarina and stays true to a tough and manly looking SUV design language that we have seen Mahindra implement in the past. Talking a little more about design, we see how the wheels have been pushed to the edges of the body and how the TUV3OO has a very distinct shoulder line. The TUV3OO also has a very interesting C-pillar and a tail gate mounted spare wheel.

Coming to the mechanicals, the new Mahindra TUV3OO is an all new platform and unlike previously assumed, will have not be the new Bolero replacement as we had predicted. A 1.5-litre engine that is from the mHawk engine family and will be badged mHawk80 will also power the new Mahindra TUV3OO. We assume this nomenclature will highlight the amount of horsepower this new engine makes. The TUV5OO will also be made for international markets in both left hand drive and right hand drive and will be exported mid next year as the LHD version is still in prototype stages.

Mahindra will also offer a whole host of aftermarket accessories for the TUV5OO platform. This will include bullbars, body cladding, auxiliary lighting options and wheels. The TUV500 will essentially go up against the likes of the Ford Ecosport but will also compete with the likes of the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. Expect the TUV3OO to sell exceedingly well considering it comes from the house of Mahindra where most vehicles are met with a good public reception. Sales will also be aided with the fact that the TUV3OO is also a good looking SUV.
