Jaguar Land Rover's Defender has been the emblem in the world of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), but substituting it will be no easy task for the company

In a recent announcement, Land Rover announced its intention to launch a new Defender for 2015. To give a heads up of the new Defender, Land Rover will bring a concept at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept model of the Defender will be called DC100.

“Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide. This isn't a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century,” said Gerry McGovern, Director of Design, Land Rover.

The Land Rover Defender was first produced as Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten, which came out as three and five door station wagons, five door pick-up trucks and three door vans. The car officially became Defender in 1990. The car was launched with a 2.4litre and a 2.5litre diesel engine and a 3.9litre petrol engine.

JLR has based the DC100 around the primary characteristics of the car with an aim to continue the same chapter in Defender’s timeline. The concept will be unveiled on 13th September, 2011
