The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, the quickest Jeep ever, will make a debut at the New York Auto Show today.

The new Jeep is not just an SUV. It’s a fast paced SUV. The car can touch 100km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a controlled top speed of 155mph (248km/h). It’s a perfect match for those quarter-mile quirks who also look to take the roads not taken.

The American car manufacturer claims that the 6.4litre HEMI 465 horsepower V8 will have the best handling ever featured in any Jeep. If you thinking that the amount of gas that the new Jeep will eat up may be a problem, Chrysler has that sorted out for you as well. The SRT8 will perform 13% better than its predecessor in terms of fuel economy thanks to the Fuel Saver Technology that allows cylinder deactivating to maneuver over a wider RPM band. Reduced noise, vibration and harshness lead to an improved ride quality in the new Jeep.

A range of five models – Auto, Sport, Tow, Track and Snow, will be made available to customers to suit their driving pleasures. The new Throttle Anticipate technology has a sensor that detects movement in the throttle while on a standstill and allows maximum traction even before slippage occurs. It can transfer up to 100% of the available torque to one wheel in case of a possible slippage.

An all wheel anti lock braking system (ABS) and Brembo brakes allows the monster to reduce from 100km/h to naught in a short distance of 116 feet.

The interiors have seen a revamp as well. Leather wrapped heated steering wheel, typical SRT leather and suede seats, embroidered SRT logos on the front seats is what makes the insides look good.

The car will be available in Jeep showrooms in the third quarter of 2011. The cost of this giant is yet to be revealed by the company.
