Spy shots of a new belt driven Ducati cruiser – believed to be based on the Ducati Diavel – have once again emerged on the Internet

New belt-driven Ducati cruiser

A new belt driven Ducati cruiser based on the Diavel has been spotted testing once again.

The motorcycle, thought to be the new Ducati Diavel, now seems to be a new motorcycle altogether, although the basic design seems to be borrowed from the Diavel.

This one seems like a new cruiser from Ducati, although it seems to be based on the Ducati Diavel, and with quite a few changes.

So, what’s new?

There’s a new chassis; the tubular trellis has the same architecture as the Diavel’s but the one on the new Ducati seems all new. Then there’s a new swingarm, still one-sided but different from the one on the current Diavel and the rear shock is different too; unlike the horizontally mounted low monoshock, this one is an offset, on the left-hand side.

The two radiators also have been designed differently and that changes the overall look of this cruiser and makes it look different from the Diavel.

Then there's the seat, which seems to be a solo unit on the test bike, complete with a tail light just where the seat ends, and the testing equipment mounted on a make shift rear carrier. We're not sure if the bike will get a pillion seat or will be a solo unit on the production model.

From all indications, the new belt-driven Ducati is possibly aimed at the cruiser market. Going by the Diavel being marketed as ‘not a cruiser’; the forward set footpegs, low stance and belt drive clearly point out this new belt-driven Ducati’s cruiser credentials.

The new Ducati Diavel-based cruiser may be intended for the cruiser-hungry US market, but we won’t be surprised if the Italians decide to launch it worldwide. After all, the Ducati Diavel is quite popular almost everywhere and in India too, it is the largest selling Ducati.

If this upcoming Ducati is based on the Diavel, which it seems like it is, then this belt-driven Ducati sure promises to be one entertaining ride just like the Diavel as we found out recently. The new bike from Ducati is expected to be unveiled at the EICMA motor show next month. So keep watching this space for more details.
