Diesel cars have lost sheen, with sales touching a five-year low on declining customer preference and the looming shadow of the NGT order limiting their lifespan. Latest figures show diesel cars accounted for only 33 per cent of total passenger vehicle sales in this fiscal after it peaked to 47 per cent in 2012-13.

Diesel cars have lost sheen, with sales touching a five-year low on declining customer preference and the looming shadow of the NGT order limiting their lifespan to a mere 10 years. The narrowing divide between prices of diesel and petrol as automotive fuel has swung the market in favour of the latter a traditional favourite.

Latest figures show diesel cars accounted for only 33 per cent of total passenger vehicle sales in this fiscal after it peaked to 47 per cent in 2012-13.
