Dream Works Studios signs deal with EA, film set for 2014 release

Need for Speed movie

Need for Speed: 19 titles, 140 million copies sold worldwide, longest running game title ever, and there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping more from coming. The new Most Wanted will be released on November 1, 2012. The news gets even better for NFS fans, as DreamWorks Studios will be releasing a film based on the game franchisee in 2014.

There is proof that people love movies based on the broad theme of street racing, the Fast and Furious quartet (the fifth was more of a car and heist movie) were hits because of the cars and the racing they contained. DreamWorks will be employing some good talent in making this film; brothers George and John Gatins will write the story, which is based on the Need for Speed series, but is not based on an individual game. Stunt man turned director Scott Waugh will be directing the film. DreamWorks has announced that the film will be fast-tracked with a target production start date for early next year and a 2014 release.

"George, John and EA brought a very compelling story to us which we believe is going to make a fun, cool movie franchise," said Stacey Snider, CEO and Co-Chair of DreamWorks. "With such a large following around the globe, we're excited to make a film that does justice to the popular underlying video game series."

EA and DreamWorks say that the film will be fast-paced and high-on-octane, rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. They promise that the cars will be hot, the racing intense and the story will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Also Read: Fast Five: The Vehicles!!
