an Kopecky of the MRF team secured the 2014 Asia Pacific Rally Championship title with the help of a fantastic win at the Rally of Hokkaido. The 2013 European Rally Champion, heads into the final round of the season with a 50-point lead over his team-mate Gaurav Gill.
The India rally driver got off to a brilliant start in the Rally of Hokkaido, and was in the lead, but in stage 8 he understeered off a corner and crashed into a tree. This not only marked the end of his rally but also his fight for the championship title.
Kopecky drove well to finish 42-seconds ahead of second placed Hiroshi Yanagisawa. He not only maintained good pace on sections that were relatively easy on the car but also ensured that he relaxed his right foot a little over rough sections. This was Kopecky’s third victory of the season. Yuya Sumiyama took the last spot on the podium.
Reigning champion Gaurav Gill currently stands second on the championship table with 104 points on the board while Jun Xu is placed third with 97 points. Sanjay Takale from India finished 5th driving a Cusco prepared Subaru Impreza and with 68 points is placed sixth. The final round of the 2014 APRC will commence on November 7 in China.
