Monsoon brought along with it the season to play football and more motorsport action in India. Alongside the VW Polo Cup 2011, MMSC also announced the schedule for Motorcycle Racing Championship. The first round of the MRF – FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing Championship kicked off on 3rd June at the Irungatukottai track in Chennai. The 2011 Championship will comprise of five rounds out of which only the second round will take place at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore in July.
Yamaha on-make race at the Motorcycle Racing Championship
The championship will have two categories – novice and open. Along with these the bikes will also be categorised in Group D 4-stroke upto 130cc (Novice), Group D 4-stroke 165cc (Novice and Open), Group B 4-stroke upto 165cc (Novice and Open) and Group A Superbikes upto 600cc (Open).
The season will also be host to a one-make championship from Honda and Yamaha alongside the National Racing Championship, which means that there will be nearly 18 races conducted per race weekend with participation from almost 300 riders. The Honda one-make race will see participation from the CB Twister (as a standalone race for novice), CBF Stunner, CBR 150 and the CBR 250. As far as the Yamaha is concerned, the stock R15 will be used by the novice while the Open category riders will use R15s with Daytona kits.
The Championship will award a sum total of 20lakhs over five months with Rs. 2,80,000 being awarded per round and Rs. 6,00,000 for the championship winner. The fee for entering the championship is as low as Rs. 750 per race for the one-make championship whereas Rs. 1000 per race for the National Championship.
