Ministry for External Affairs orders 55 Mercedes diesel cars

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has ordered 55 Mercedes-Benz E250 CDi luxury sedans. These cars will be used to ferry visiting dignitaries, diplomats, heads of state and presidents starting with the upcoming India Africa Forum Summit. The Mercedes-Benz cars will be leased to the government after the German company won the mandate that the MEA had issued.

Speaking on the occasion, Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Mercedes-Benz has always been the preferred luxury brand for Head of States across the globe including India, and we are extremely proud of this fact. The impeccable sense of prestige, luxury, safety and comfort offered by a Mercedes-Benz is rarely matched and makes us the obvious choice for such exclusive clientele. The mandate from the Ministry of External Affairs opting for the E-Class luxury sedan is a reiteration of the inherent strength of our product and of the unsurpassable brand equity that Mercedes-Benz commands in the Indian luxury car market.”

Coincidentally, Mercedes-Benz has always been one of the most preferred luxury car brands globally for world leaders, dictators and generally heads of state around the world. Mercedes-Benz in the 60s and 70s were especially popular with African and Middle Eastern leaders along with Asian heads of state who more often than not had more than a few dozen personal Mercedes-Benz limousines at their disposal.
