If you can call a Mercedes-Benz S-Class “cheap,” this new S400 Coupe is it.

Mercedes-Benz S400 4MATIC Coupe

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new addition to the S-Class Coupe family in the form of the S400 4MATIC Coupe. The S400 is now the entry-level model in the line-up and will join the S500, S500 4MATIC, S63, S63 4MATIC, and the top of the range S65 coupe.

Despite being termed “entry-level” the S400 is still an S-Class through and through, so it isn’t exactly lacking in terms of features. It looks the same, and what has changed is underneath the hood.

The S400 4MATIC Coupe is powered by the same engine as the SL400, a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 affair, rated at 362PS and 500 Nm of torque, and mated to a 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system and a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. Those are not too shabby figures and it reflects in the performance: 0-100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Coming back to the feature list, the S400 gets adaptive LED headlights, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system, AIRMATIC air suspension, Active Parking Assist, and the latest generation of the COMAND Online infotainment system. Yep, it is still very much an S-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz S400 4MATIC Coupe has a starting price of €99,960 (Rs 73 lakh) in Germany, and first deliveries are expected in early 2016.
