The names Mercedes-Benz and S-Class when used in conjunction stand for power and luxury. Currently, this luxurious yacht on wheels is available in four variants in the country, the standard S500 petrol and the S350 CDI. Also, the VR9 certified S-Guard and the recently launched VR10 certified Maybach S600 Guard. And keeping up with their promise of launching 12 new cars in India, the German carmaker is all set to launch another petrol variant of its flagship luxury sedan tomorrow. It's called the S400 but unlike a lot of markets over the world this will not be a hybrid.
The S400 will be powered by a smaller and more efficient 3.0-litre V6 engine which would probably come with forced induction for producing more power. The engine is likely to dish out 330PS of max power and 480Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to the same 7-speed GTronic transmission that also does duty on the S500. It should be the perfect car for people who want an S-Class but find the diesel engine a tad noisy and the petrol V8 bit excessive.
There should however be no difference in the cabin of the car. It will still offer the same level of luxury with a Napa leather wrapped cabin complete with Merc’s COMAND infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. As all S-Class cars, rear passenger is king with all the luxuries and space focused around them. The reclining seats with massage function however will most likely be optional extra. Expect the car to be priced around 1.1-1.3crore
