Mercedes-Benz will be exploring the potential of technology rich Bangalore further with the inauguration of its new research and development centre in the IT hub. This is Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India’s (MBRDI) second facility at Whitefield, Bangalore. The new facility christened ‘Embassy Crest’ is spread over 2.66 lakh sq ft with a capacity to house 2,400 employees.

MBRDI has been around since 1996 and has filed over 200 patents for innovation in automotive development from a nearby facility in Whitefield, Bangalore. Thomas Merker, Vice President Body, Safety, Telematics Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and acting Chairman MBRDI said, “India is a high potential market for our company and MBRDI will continue to ensure that development initiatives are in accordance to customer needs."

The company states that it is committed towards expansion of R&D and IT in India. Direct competitors Audi, BMW and JLR have much lesser R&D focus in India compared to Mercedes-Benz. Manu Saale, MD & CEO MBRDI stated, "MBRDI has an 18 year old history in India and our mission is to be a Centre of Excellence within Daimler for Engineering & IT.  Our growth strategy focuses on harnessing local capabilities and Bangalore with its large talent pool is the right location for MBRDI.
