The 2014 Nizmo GT Academy Challenge on Facebook offers gamers a chance to become professional race car drivers. Top scorers will win a place at Gran Turismo 6 qualifying day

Gamers stand a chance to become professional race car drivers by participating in Nizmo GT Academy Challenge on Facebook

Nissan and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have geared up once again to give video gamers a chance to become professional race car drivers. The sixth installment of the gamer-to-racer competition has kicked off. The 2014 Nizmo GT Academy Challenge on Facebook will give PlayStation 3 gamers a chance to compete on Grand Turismo 6. This opportunity will enable gamers to take their virtual driving skills into the real world.

Available to play exclusively on Facebook, the 2014 Nizmo GT Academy Challenge will test the reactions and driving skills of the participants. The highest scores will be displayed on the leaderboard, and the eligible top performers in each country will be invited to an exclusive Gran Turismo 6 qualifying day. These participants will then face-off each other on the driving simulator game.

The best performers will be qualified for the local National Final. These performers will then face stiff competition from  the GT6TM in-game qualification round winners as well as those who won in a local Live Event competition. These performers will then be challenged based on various criteria such as fitness and media and also their gaming and driving skills.

Those who progress from the National Final will go on to the European Race Camp, which will take place at the Silverstone Circuit in England. The finalists will be judged based on their paces on and off the track, and the participant who scores the highest will be crowned as the 2014 GT Academy Champion at the end of the week-long challenge.

The winner will also bag a chance to become a real-life racing driver for Nissan. The 2014 GT champion will receive intensive three-month training before participating in the Dubai 24 Hour Le Mans race (the world’s oldest active sports car race in endurance racing) which will be held in January 2015.

Usama Al-Qassab, Vice-President, Product Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment, Europe, said, “GT Academy is all about finding real racing talent from among the vast pool of superfast gamers. However, we know that not all the gamers out there will have a copy of Gran Turismo 6 and so this is a chance for them to enter by an alternative route, as well as being a lot of fun. They'll still have to prove themselves on GT6, however, to make it to the next stage.”

The Nizmo GT Academy Challenge is available for anyone to play on Facebook until June 16, 2014. Eligible winners will be notified via Facebook shortly after the closing date, and will be invited to an exclusive gaming qualification day which will be held within the country.
