Apart from launching the Mercedes-Maybach S600 in India today, the German carmaker also made a big announcement. The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S500 will be locally assembled in India and has been launched at Rs 1.67 crore (ex-showroom Pune).  This makes the new Maybach S500 the most expensive car to be locally assembled in our country. The new Mercedes-Benz Maybach S500 will be exclusive only for Indian and Chinese markets where longer wheelbase models are hugely popular among the affluent. The Maybach S500 will sport similar dimensions to the S600 Maybach which means it has a 200mm longer wheelbase than the luxury limousine it is based on. The Mercedes-Maybach S500 marks the return of the Maybach brand into India after Mercedes-Benz who owns the brand pulled it globally a few years ago.

The interior is of course the most important part of the S500 with individual seats in the rear that are upholstered according to the owner’s taste using the Designo program and is similar to the Maybach S600. Powering the Maybach S500 is a 4.6-litre displacement V8 motor churning out 465PS at 5,250rpm and a massive 700Nm of peak torque at 1,800rpm. The engine comes mated to the Mercedes 7G Tronic Plus automatic gearbox and is available only in rear wheel drive configuration. Talking about performance, the luxobarge reaches the 100kmph mark in five seconds onto a top whack of 250kmph which is electronically limited.
