Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new GLE luxury SUV in India on October 14 replacing the currently available Mercedes-Benz ML-Class of SUV. The new SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 60-70 lakh in India and will take the fight to the BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and the upcoming Audi Q7. The new SUV will be available with only a diesel engine and will mostly be assembled in India.

Technically, the GLE is nothing more than a facelifted version of the ML-Class SUV. On the exterior front, the GLE feature a new set of headlamps and a larger more angular grille than before. The grille with its twin slat design and centrally mounted three-pointed-star though still is reminiscent of the older ML’s striking design elements. The trademark angular C-pillar and large tail lamps still remain though although the tail lamps have been reworked to make them look more modern and up to date. The GLE also gets LED headlamps for the first time further improving its appeal.

The interior gets updated too with an even larger screen than before which is without a doubt the centre of attraction. The air vents too have been encased with a classy silver surround, which in turn is set into the gloss black dashboard itself. The GLE is also available in a variety to trim options such as open-pore brown ash wood or the shiny wood types like brown eucalyptus, black poplar or brown burred walnut although all of these might not make it to India.

On the mechanical front, the GLE in India will be available with a choice of two diesel engines : the GLE 250d and the GLE 350d. The GLE 250d gets an output of 207Ps of peak power while the GLE 350d makes 262PS of peak power and 620Nm of peak torque. This category of Mercedes-Benz SUVs have always done quite well in India and we expect the GLE to continue the trend.
