Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe unveiled

The BMW X6 was launched in 2009 to a mixed response from buyers worldwide. Although there were a group of people who discounted the X6’s design language, it has gone to become an iconic part of BMW’s product portfolio enjoying no real competition from any other manufacturer… until now. The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is Merc’s answer to the BMW X6.

Mercedes-Benz is combining two classes of vehicle each with its own distinct style to make the GLE Coupe. While the sporty nature of a coupe dominates, the aggressive SUV stance and height adds to the overall package. The front end is typically adoptive of the new Mercedes-Benz design language whereas the rear adopts the new coupe design language that we have seen on the likes of the S-Class coupe and the AMG GT supercar.

At the premiere the GLE Coupe will be available as a diesel or petrol model with an output range of between 258PS and 333PS. A top-of-the-range model, the GLE 450 AMG, the first representative of a new Mercedes-AMG product line, the AMG sports models will also be available and will make 367PS of peak power. The GLE Coupe will also be available with the 9G-ronic, dual clutch, nine speed gearbox with 4Matic permanent all-wheel-drive. The GLE coupe will be equipped with a set of 275/50 R20 tyres or sportier 21-inch or 22-inch options.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe will make it to India in mid-2015 with a pricetag of about Rs 75-90 lakh. Although we do not expect the GLE coupe to storm the market in terms of sales figures, the coupe like stance will certainly attract more than a few affluent customers. The GLE nomenclature will also soon take over the current M-Class which is due for a model change very soon.
