Powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is the most powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine in series production across the world!

That hasn’t stopped Mercedes from working on an even more extreme version of the CLA 45 AMG and the company will be showcasing racing series concepts of the car at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Aimed at customer motorsport, the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG racing series concept is designed to suit interested customer teams for competitive racing. The production version of the CLA 45 AMG currently generates 365PS of power and 450Nm of torque. The technical specifications of the racing versions will vary according to particular race series and rules, as will the power transfer to the road with both all-wheel drive versions and front-wheel drive versions on the cards.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG racing series concept is also equipped with adjustable racing suspension with variable spring rates, damper settings, as well as track and camber settings for front and rear axles. The racing suspension has also widened the front and rear track of the car.

To adhere to professional racing standards the CLA 45 AMG racing series concept is fitted with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic body (CFRP) kit that includes new front and rear aprons, flared wings and side sills along with an adjustable carbon fibre rear spoiler. Needless to say that the body kit features large cooling ducts for the engine and brakes while the front and rear air splitters increase downforce.

Inside, the racing series CLA 45 AMG concepts will get motorsport spec roll cages, carbon fibre P 1300 GT racing bucket seats from Recaro, an integrated fire extinguishing system and a racing steering wheel with shift paddles.

The success of the motorsport spec SLS AMG GT3 for customer teams across five continents has given Mercedes-Benz the confidence to come up with the CLA 45 AMG racing series concept. With the company’s strong commitment to customer motorsport the CLA 45 AMG racing series concept looks to have a successful future on race tracks across the world.
