The Goodwood Festival of Speed gets hotter by the minute with McLaren revealing the 650S GT3 at the estate grounds. Just last week, McLaren revealed a teaser of what looked like a racecar version of the 650S and the GT3 doesn’t disappoint.

The 650S GT3 is the second GT3 car shown by McLaren. The racing team turned Sportcar manufacturer already runs the 12C GT3 and has won the championship thrice. The 650S will enter the ring in 2015 to carry on the successful run. It’s based on the 650S coupe revealed recently but gets the full race treatment.

The GT3 development team CFD technology and motorsport simulation to offer enhanced aerodynamics and improved levels of cooling. While the 650S face is retained, the GT3 gets an aggressive front splitter, and all-new lightweight carbon fibre bodywork wraps around reprofiled air intakes, which offer further optimised cooling. The GT3 also gets a carbon fibre rear wing to round off the extensive use of carbon fibre all around the car. Pirelli P Zero racing slicks further promise to enhance levels of grip.

The 650S GT3 is sports the 3.8-litre McLaren V8 twin turbo ‘M838T’ engine. While the power is restricted to 500PS by FIA regulations, the same as in the 12C GT3, the 650S sports larger air intakes and re-profiled side intakes to improve cooling.

The 650S GT3’s customer car production begins next autumn and it will be priced at 3.3 lakh Pounds. Since the 650S shares the same chassis as the 12C, owners of the 12C GT3 get the upgrade package as well. Only 15 examples of the 650S GT3 will be manufactured and 15 upgrade packages for the 12C GT3 will be available.
