The McLaren P1 is designed to be the best driver's car in the world on road and track

McLaren is coming back fighting to the super car scene. After the F1 super car from the 90s, the P1 is their latest attempt to take on the best in the business. The McLaren P1 will sport a tweaked version of the company’s 3.8-litre, direct injection, V8 engine that will develop over 800PS of power! The car is being developed at McLaren’s technology centre in UK where lightness is a crucial criteria for development.

First pictures of the McLaren P1 reveal that McLaren has worked hard in trying to give the P1 that evocative super car appeal, but some might say Mclaren has slightly over done it with those busy lines and exposed carbon fibre panels.

The McLaren P1 will be showcased for the first time at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The P1 will be slotted above the MP4-12C super car both in terms of performance and price.

Once the car goes into production late 2013, McLaren claims it will be the best driver’s car in the world on both road and track. That may sound like a bold claim, but the company aims to use all of its years of racing and road car heritage (which will amount to 50 years by the time the car hits production) to create a car like no other, much like they did with the McLaren F1 20 years ago.

“Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit,’ says McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff. “It is the true test of a super car’s all round ability and a much more important technical statement. Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished super car ever made.”
