The Japanese car maker, Mazda, will unveil their next-generation subcompact concept car, the Mazda Hazumi, at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Mazda will also showcase their small-displacement new diesel engine, the SkyActiv-D1.5 on the Swiss podium.

The word Hazumi finds its meaning as ‘bound’ or ‘spring-up’ in Japanese. The Japanese manufacturer conveys the image of Hazumi as a car which is bursting with energy. The car will adopt Mazda’s Kodo design language and is expected to offer roomier interiors.

Hazumi will become the fourth model under the Japanese car maker’s SkyActiv philosophy. The SkyActiv is a series of technology developed by Mazda which increases the car’s fuel efficiency and engine output. Mazda CX5, Mazda3 and Mazda 6 are the cars that are built-up on this technology.

Reports suggest that Mazda Hazumi will be equipped with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Skyactiv diesel engine. A six-speed manual continuously variable transmission (CVT) is expected to underpin the Hazumi. The car is expected to be released towards the end of this year.
