History was created in Sunday’s Spanish GP as Max Verstappen became the youngest driver ever to win a Grand Prix. The 18-year-old driver took the lead with 10 laps remaining, starting from Lap 44, at the Circuit De Catalunya. Max was followed by the Ferrari Scuderia duo: Kimi Raikkonen, who took the second spot, while Sebastian Vettel stood third.

The season's champ, Nico Rosberg was knocked out along with his teammate and the pole position holder Lewis Hamilton at turn four on the first lap of the race. The collision happened as Hamilton tried to overtake Nico from the inside, while he (Rosberg) closed in pushing his teammate into the grass. Hamilton then lost control over his Silver Arrow; he subsequently slid towards Rosberg’s car and clipped his right wheel as both made contact. The crash ended in a massive dust cloud with both the Mercedes cars done for the day and possibly leaving their drivers agitated. This also cleared the track for Ferrari and Red Bull to fight it out for victory.

Soon after the crash, Max held his second spot following teammate Daniel Ricciardo for the most part of the race. But the young gun eventually emerged as a winner as he endured in the race with his ate up tyres, which resulted because of the two-stop decision that he took rather than a three-stop one like Vettel.

The excited Dutchman explained: “I think the last lap I was getting a bit of cramp, I was getting excited, but yeah I couldn't believe it. I was looking up to the pit board, I saw my name and I started to watch the board and I was just thinking to myself 'don't look at it anymore and focus on the tyres and trying to bring it home' and that's what we did. A great feeling, I absolutely didn't expect this.”

As far as the Mercedes Petronas team is concerned there’s a lot of contemplation to be done as the F1 committee will be analysing the crash.
