Maserati has revealed the new GranCabrio MC at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The car has been inspired by the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series and the GT4 version is an aesthetically enhanced variant of the GranCabrio roadster.
The GranCabrio MC is 48 millimetres longer than the GranCabrio and GranCabrio Sport, characterised by a new front design that is inspired by the MC Stradale for optimised aerodynamic lift and flow. The downforce of the car has also gone up by 10 per cent at the front and 25 per cent at the rear when measured at 140km/h.
The bonnet gets two new air ducts to optimise cooling the V8, while two more air vents in the front wings provide better cooling for the brakes.
The GranCabrio MC also gets new bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Light Control headlights that feature daytime running LEDs.
At the back, there is a bigger rear spoiler for more downforce at high speeds, the bumper has been redesigned for better aerodynamics, while the circular exhausts have been moved to the centre of the bumper.
Completing the exterior upgrade for the GranCabrio MC are the 20-inch MC Design alloy wheels in either glossy Titanio or matte Graphite finish.
Inside, the seats have been redesigned to incorporate a headrest and have an enhanced profile to improve comfort with their wrap-around structure and lateral containment. The frames of the optional carbon fibre front seats have been redesigned to provide 20mm extra leg room to rear seat passengers. The rear seats too have been redesigned for better comfort and restraint at high speeds.
The steering wheel is now flat at the top and bottom for greater manoeuvrability and high speed driving comfort. Completing the makeover are Trofeo designed massive paddle shifters and an aluminium pedal unit.
The GranCabrio MC is fitted with single rate dampers to emphasise the car’s sporty character, an experience gained from the GranTurismo MC Stradale. The brake discs feature grooves which remove the film of water that forms on the discs while driving on wet surfaces.
While the GranCabrio MC delivers on the style quotient the Maserati GranCabrio Sport has been given a minor face-lift with an upgraded suspension system and engine tweaked to deliver a bit more power. It too has been showcased at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
On the outside, the front and rear light clusters of the GranCabrio Sport have been redesigned with daytime running LEDs.
Inside, the GranCabrio Sport’s steering wheel has been flattened at the top and bottom with an accentuated grip profile. The steering wheel is complimented by the Trofeo style paddle shifters and light aluminium pedals.
Under the hood, the 4.7-litre V8 engine’s hardware and software have been toggled with to increase power output by 10PS and torque by 10Nm. This means that the GranCabrio Sport now develops 466PS of power and 520Nm of torque. Mated to Maserati’s MC Auto Shift equipped six-speed ZF gearbox the car can go from 0-100km/h in 5 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 285km/h.
The GranCabrio Sport’s suspension has received tweaks as well and has been stiffened to give it better dynamics on the road or on the track.
At the motor show Maserati also announced its three-year partnership with Bowers & Wilkins to create a new high performance in-car sound system that will be exclusive to Maserati performance cars. Along with the new audio system, Bowers & Wilkins’ partnership with Maserati will produce a range of limited edition co-branded audio products, including high performance speakers and headphones.
