Maruti has announced a price hike of up to Rs 20,000 across its model range with effect from January 16, 2013, i.e. tomorrow. While the impact of the price hike on individual models and variants is not yet known, expect prices to increase 1.5 per cent on an average.
The reasons for hiking prices are usual: Tightening of margins due to a weakening rupee. This is the second price hike from Maruti in four months. In October 2012, the company had raised prices of all its models by Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,250 citing rising input costs and currency fluctuation.
Nearly all car makers have hiked prices in recent times blaming it on rising raw material costs, inflation, currency fluctuations, etc. Related: Car prices to increase from January 2013
Maruti currently sells 14 models ranging from the Alto 800 starting at Rs. 2.41 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) to the Suzuki Grand Vitara priced at Rs. 24.61 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company recently launched a face-lifted WagonR with refreshed exterior, interiors and improved fuel efficiency. Read More: Updated Maruti WagonR launched at Rs 3.58 lakh
