Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, has outsold its younger sibling Alto to become the best-selling car in the month of July 2014. Replacement to the company’s most popular yesteryear model- Maruti 800, the Alto ruled the sales chart for a decade by selling over 25 lakh units till date.
India’s largest carmaker’s Maruti Swift Dzire managed to sell 18,634 units in the month of July, while Maruti Alto was good enough to hold the second position on the sales chart by selling 16,997 units last month. Maruti Suzuki Swift was third on the list with sales volume of 15,703 units.
This paradigm shift indicates that an increasing number of Indian buyers are opting for bigger cars even if it means shelling a little extra money from their pockets. The compact sedan is seen as a value for money by Indian buyers who look for a premium feel with the sedan body style along with economical engine options. Considering all these points Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is definitely a riveting package over the Maruti Alto.
The entry-level hatch, Maruti Alto, has been a successful product for the company by being consistent in terms of sales over the past few years. But, this car is slowly ageing now, and is losing its market share to the competitors. The Swift Dzire on the other hand benefited an increase in sales numbers owing to the boom in the compact sedan segment.
Maruti’s compact sedan locks horns with Honda Amaze which is driving sales for the Japanese carmaker. With production limited to 5,000 models per month Honda Amaze was successful in selling 4,507 units last month. The newly launched Hyundai Xcent has also witnessed an impressive growth in terms of sales. The Korean carmaker managed to sell 6,652 units of this compact sedan in July, while its entry-level hatchback Hyundai Eon managed to sell 6,020 units last month.
