Maruti Suzuki starts 'Deccan Rally' from Pune

The second round of the National Super League Rally Championship 2016, titled the 'Deccan Rally,' has the participation of 35 teams out of which five are all-women teams

Initiated by Maruti Suzuki, the National Super League TSD Rally Championship 2016 is a motorsport event aimed at young and working professionals who are keen for motorsports.  The second round - 'Deccan Rally' was officially flagged off today at the Gateway Hotel in Pune. The Uttarakhand Adventure Rally was the first round of the National Super League TSD Rally Championship 2016 that was held in Dehradun. 

The second round of Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) event has in all 35 teams out of which five are all-women teams and a total of 11 women participants. Each vehicle participating in the event was passed through a compulsory scrutiny check before it was cleared for the flag-off event.

Speaking at the start of the 'Deccan Rally' in Pune, R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said, “With MSNSTSDRC we want to take motorsports to masses, unlike the more popular rallying formats from the Maruti Suzuki stable like Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm and Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, this one pans through the north, south, east, west and central parts of the country, bring its own set of trials and experiments with it. This is a big piece of our motorsport efforts and encouragement of rally enthusiasts. We wish the men and their machines all the best, may the best participant win.”   

The teams will start their first leg of the rally on Saturday, May 14, and will navigate their route from Pune to Guhagar, Ratnagiri. On the following day, the teams will cross through Ratnagiri and conclude the rally in Goa. In the duration of two days, the teams will cover over 700kms.

Participating in the Deccan Rally are Karthick Maruthi and Sankar Anand with their Vitara Brezza, who were the winners of the first round of the National Super League TSD Rally. The rally will also have seasoned competitors like Jagmeet Gill, Sachin Singh and SK Ajgar Ali giving a tough time for other teams.

The Deccan Rally is open only for 4-wheeler participants that are divided as expert level and Non-Championship contenders which are further split into four groups: Non-Championship – Expert, Non-Championship – Amateur, Denizen – Expert, and Denizen – Amateur.
