The country’s largest carmaker’s new crossover – the S-Cross has received 6,000 bookings and 35,000 inquires even before the vehicle’s official launch that occurred yesterday

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross receives 6,000 bookings

Bragging the title to be the first crossover from Maruti’s stable to come equipped with only diesel-powered engines - the S-Cross has received tremendous response from Indian car enthusiasts. The carmaker has received 6,000 bookings and 35,000 inquires even before the official launch of the crossover that took place yesterday.Similarly, Hyundai had claimed to get 10,000 pre-bookings before the Creta launch in India. 

The new Maruti S-Cross gets a chrome finished two-slat grille flanked by massive projector type headlamps with Daytime Running Lights. The forthcoming new crossover boasts of an aggressive profile with black cladding that runs across the wheel arches and doors. The taillamps get chrome accents and the car rides on 16-inch alloy wheels.

The car comes equipped with features such as touchscreen entertainment system, satellite navigation, push button start/stop, steering mounted controls, automatic headlamps with projector lights, keyless entry, rear camera, parking sensors, reclining rear seats, rain sensing wipers and cruise control.

The S-Cross is equipped with Fiat’s Multijet engines which are tweaked to Maruti’s specifications. A 1.3-litre diesel mill with a variable geometry turbocharger developing 90PS of power and 200Nm of torque runs under the new crossover. Called the DDiS 200, the engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and has an ARAI claimed mileage figure of 23.65kmpl. A 1.6-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet engine unit that churns out 118PS of power and 320Nm of torque will also do duty under the new S-Cross. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the 1.6 comes with ARAI rated mileage of 22kmpl.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will lock horns with the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta.
