Sales of the SUV segment as a whole speak volumes about our love for the body style. Keeping that in mind, to make the most of the sub-4 metre excise duty cuts and of course to offer convenience in city driving as well, manufacturers have now started offering SUV in a more compact form. On a similar line of thought, Maruti Suzuki will bring in two new products – the Vitara Brezza and the Ignis.
At the official unveiling of the Ignis at the 2016 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki announced that they will launch the Ignis during the festive season. The Ignis with its high-set bonnet, unique honeycomb grille that surrounds the headlights, and Daytime Running Lights looks distinctive. To add to the overall design, Maruti Suzuki has fitted it with smart looking gloss black alloy wheels which we hope make it into the production model. The Ignis sports a flat rear end with square-ish taillights that are reminiscent of Volkswagen Golf from the 1980s. Expect the interior to look identical to other Maruti Suzuki offerings in the same price bracket.
Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will come with petrol as well as diesel engine options. It will get the 1.2 K Series petrol unit that makes 84.3PS and 115Nm. The diesel motor makes 74 horses and 190Nm. The diesel will is also expected to come with the SHVS system thanks to which it is expected to return impressive efficiency. Both these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
When the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is launched around Diwali time, it will go against the Mahindra KUV100. Expect it to be priced around the Rs 5 lakh mark.
