Ahead of its showcasing at the upcoming edition of the Delhi Auto Expo in February, brochures of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis subcompact SUV have been leaked online. The car will be launched under the Suzuki label globally while it will be retailed through Maruti Suzuki’s luxury car channel NEXA in India.
The carmaker had showcased the iM-4 concept at the Geneva Motor Show early in 2015 and hinted that the production version of the car isn’t far off. True to their word, they unveiled the Suzuki Ignis at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.
With the leaked specifications, it has emerged that India-bound Suzuki Ignis is powered by a 1242cc, 4-cylinder, K12C DualJet petrol engine producing 91 PS of power and 118 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and a DC synchronous motor is also matched to the mill. It will come in the form of a standard two-wheel drive, with likely three trims, while the four-wheel drive could also be available.
On the design side, the styling has a youthful nature and the distinct combination of the headlights and the newly-designed grille make an appealing case for the car. The Ignis gets a ground clearance of 180 mm with a 2,435 mm wheelbase. It measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width and 1,595 mm in height. The standard boot space of 258 litres can be increased to 415 litres by flipping the rear seats.
Other features like front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, lane departure warning, ESP, Hill Hold, Hill Descent Control, automatic headlights, LED fog lamps, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, start-stop button, audio system with Bluetooth, heated front seats and regenerative braking can also be found on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
In India, the car is expected to come with the 1.2-litre and the 1.3-litre engine options, from the Baleno, with both AMT and manual transmission. Set to lock horns with new Mahindra KUV100 and the Hyundai Grand i10, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to be priced at around Rs 5 lakh for the base model.
