The long awaited prices for the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz have finally been announced and as expected have undercut its competition. The diesel version of the Ciaz will be the most popular one and with four variants to choose from, the typical Indian customer will find himself spoilt for choice.

Starting at Rs 8.04 lakh, the base model of the Ciaz, the VDi is the cheapest car amongst the five we have compared here. By contrast, the most popular car in this segment, the 1.5-litre diesel powered Honda City is priced at Rs 8.38 lakh and the popular Hyundai Verna at Rs 8.56 lakh. The most expensive of the lot is the Volkswagen Vento at Rs 8.57 lakh while the spacious Nissan Sunny comes in at a sensibly pried Rs 8.13 lakh.

The fully loaded versions of the cars selected here show a large gap in price with the Ciaz once again gaining an advantage by being the cheapest of the lot. Priced at Rs 9.80 lakh, the ZDi+ variant of the Ciaz is Rs 1.26 lakh cheaper than the fully loaded Honda City, which is priced at Rs 11.06 lakh. The Hyundai Verna too is an expensive buy, priced similarly at Rs 11.02 lakh with the Nissan Sunny being priced at Rs 9.97 lakh. The Volkswagen Vento though is closest to the price of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz at Rs 9.90 lakh. That said, the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City do have slightly cheaper variants that are priced closer to the Ciaz that offer equal levels of equipment without added features like the sunroof.

All in all, Maruti has managed to hit the nail on the head with the exciting pricing of the Ciaz. With over 10,000 bookings and counting the Ciaz combined with Maruti’s brand equity is the only car that can realistically challenge the Honda City for its crown.
