In less than a year and a half, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio has already crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone

Prior to the 2014 Auto Expo there was a lot of buzz surrounding the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Not just because it was another promising hatchback from the Maruti Suzuki stables but because it was the first car to be introduced with the Automated Manual Transmission. But the hype that was created prior to its launch at the Auto Expo last year was clearly not for not nothing.

In less than a year and a half, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio has already sold more than one lakh units. And that figure becomes even more commendable when you consider that the model for the longest time has only been on sale with a petrol engine. The Manesar-based car maker only introduced the diesel trim last month.

Speaking on the achievement, RS Kalsi, Executive Director - Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one third of the sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency and within a year of its launch, Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback shot up to 71% from 61%.”

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is now sold in petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol powerplant displaces 998cc from which it makes 68PS and 90Nm. Meanwhile, its 793cc twin-cylinder diesel mill is the smallest diesel automotive diesel engine in the world. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is priced between Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 5.71 lakh. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.
