Maruti Suzuki Baleno Variant Details Revealed

We bring you the variant-wise information of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno prior to its launch

After the launch of the S-Cross and the Ciaz Hybrid, the next big thing for Maruti Suzuki is the launch of the of a premium hatchback, Baleno. Once launched, the car will compete with the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz. 

The Baleno debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show where Maruti Suzuki also revealed that it will come with the same engine options as the Swift. The Baleno will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit makes 84.3PS and 115Nm from a unit that displaces 1,197cc. This unit comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki is also expected to introduce an automatic transmission in the Baleno. The diesel on the other hand is the same 1.3-litre unit sourced from Fiat. This unit makes 75PS and 190Nm. All of this power is sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.

As far as variants go, just like the S-Cross, the Baleno will be launched in 4 petrol and diesel trims each – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. All variants of the Baleno will come with two airbags, ABS and EBD. The base variant will only get power windows for the front two passengers, central locking, rear parcel tray and gear shift indicators. The Sigma trim will also get an AC with heater but no automatic climate control. 

The Delta variant onward comes slightly more equipped. It comes with power windows at the back, rear wiper with defogger, electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs and rear parking sensors. The Delta variant will also come fitted with steering mounted controls, keyless entry, 60:40 split rear seat and a CVT gearbox.

If you want to spend a bit more for a premium feel, the Zeta variant gets leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob. On the outside, the car gets automatic headlights with Daytime Running Lamps, alloy wheels and front fog lamps. Additional features on the inside include driver side height adjustable seat and telescopic steering wheel for enhanced driving comfort. The Zeta variant also gets keyless entry with push button start. The only additional features in the Alpha variant over all of the above are projector headlamaps, reversing camera and SmartPlay infotainment system. 

Along with the S-Cross, the Baleno too will be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa dealerships. The Baleno’s immediate competition Elite i20, Jazz as well as the Polo are all priced around the Rs 5.35 lakh mark. The Manesar-based car maker is expected to launch the car around the same price or maybe even a bit cheaper to cash in on the festive season. The top-end trim of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to be priced around Rs 8.5 lakh.
