Owing to its huge success in the last two seasons, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) once again managed to successfully undertake yet another season of its WagonR Think Big Challenge talent hunt competition this year, and in doing so enlisted the participation of a large number of college students from all over country.

Varun Chandra from Guwahati was announced as the winner of Season 3 under the Young Turks category and achieved victory on the strength of his retail idea titled “Craft Mandi” which sells handicrafts to external markets through the internet as well as physical outlets after sourcing them from local craftsmen.

The winner Varun was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. Varun Chandra will also get an opportunity to enter the zonal round of the mainline category and a chance to compete with other contestants for a WagonR, Rs 10 lakh and venture capital.

The other finalists showcased ideas such as “Electronic Writing Pad”-a compact, battery driven and cheap mode of writing and “Dadi’s Veggie Mart”- business of selling vegetables in different areas in a smarter way.

The panel that comprised of Mr Sameer Narula, founder of August Capital Partner’s, Mr Abhik Ghosh, Co-founder of AG Knowledge Tech and Mr Shalil Gupta, the Consulting and Insights Director for IDC India judged the contestants and ultimately picked Maneesh as the winner of the competition.

This year, the “Young Turk” category received a whopping 5,000 registrations from college students from 19 cities across India. 160 unique business ideas were registered.
