Maruti Suzuki Alto crosses 20-lakh sales mark
Maruti's bestselling small car achieves the feat in just 11 years and 9 months since its launch

Maruti Suzuki Alto, India’s favourite car, has crossed the 20-lakh cumulative sales mark, just 11 years and 9 months after its launch. The Indian car market was dominated till 2004 by the Maruti 800, which was essentially a rebadged version of the old Suzuki Alto.
Even today, the new Maruti Suzuki Alto continues to break records. It has been the world’s largest selling small car for two years. It is the first Indian car to undergo and pass a 24-hour endurance test, and even set 13 national records in the process. And it is the only car brand in India to cross the 3 lakh unit sales mark in a year.
Maruti Suzuki sold 10 lakh Altos within eight years and three months of its launch. The sales of the next 10 lakh cars went even faster. In just three years and six months, Maruti Suzuki sold another 10 lakh cars. In March 2012, they sold more Altos than other popular cars such as the Ritz, Hyundai i10, i20 and Santro combined.

The story is indeed factual. Even I am buying/booked this car. For a middle class person, low cost of ownership matters and this is where Alto passes off with flying colours.
