In a bid to assuage its early bird customers who bought the S-Cross before its price cut, Maruti Suzuki is offering compensations in the form of gift cheques

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

When Maruti Suzuki initially launched the S-Cross in India, it came with a starting price tag of Rs 8.34 lakh. Most customers found the price tag to be on the higher side, and the S-Cross, which is otherwise a fairly potent package, was met with tepid enthusiasm in the market. Recognising this, Maruti Suzuki soon slashed the price of the crossover by up to Rs 2.05 lakh in mid-January.

However, this hasn’t gone down well with Maruti Suzuki’s early bird customers who paid the launch price for the S-Cross, and understandably so. Therefore, the carmaker is now announcing that it will return a part of the difference amount to its early customers. One customer reports that he has received a cheque of INR 90,000 and a 2 year /20,000 km premium MCP (maintenance cost protect) package from his NEXA dealership. Other customers are also reporting receiving compensation packages from Maruti Suzuki’s premium NEXA dealerships.

As it stands now, the base DDiS 200 Sigma model of the S-Cross is priced at Rs 7.79 lakh. The top-end DDiS 200 Alpha trim will now cost Rs 10.29 lakh, while the DDiS 320 Alpha carries a sticker price of Rs 11.69 lakh (all ex-showroom, New Delhi).

In India, the S-Cross is being offered with two engine options since launch - the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 and the 1.6-litre DDiS 320. The former is the same unit that does duty in the Swift, Baleno, Ciaz and all other Maruti Suzuki Diesel models. In this state of tune it makes 90PS and 200Nm. The DDiS 320 is also a Fiat-sourced motor which makes 120PS and 320Nm.
