Manish Sahi has been appointed as the managing director of Volvo Buses India and head of South Asia region. As part of the Asia Leverage Program, Sahi will play a key role in bringing Volvo Buses to the $1bn (Rs 5,062 crore) mark in the region with sales of 5,000 units per annum.
To this, he said, “Volvo has been at the forefront of driving the quality of life of millions of passengers over the last decade. The company is now ready for the next phase of growth. It is a privilege for me to lead Volvo Buses in the region and I will work towards consolidating the leadership position already established.”
Manish brings with him 18 years of experience in Business Development, Channel Development, HR and global sales experience. He worked as the National Sales Head from 2003 to 2006 and after being associated in the finance industry, he re-joined the company in 2010. Akash Passey, Senior Vice President – Business Region International and Chairman of the Board of Volvo Buses India, said, “India will play a key role in the future plans of the region, with ambitious growth plans across commercial, product, industrial and market arenas. I believe that the diverse experience that Manish brings with him will be an asset in the future. I wish him all the best for his new assignment and continued success.”
Started as a 70-30 joint venture between Sweden’s Volvo Bus Corporation and India’s Jaico Automobiles, the company became independent in 2008 inaugurating its complete bus factory in Haskote, Bangalore, and had recently introduced new models in India – a 14.5m luxury coach, the country’s first multi-axle city bus and a medium haulage bus.
