Mahindra XUV500 bookings to open across India

In its third phase of bookings, which starts June 8, 2012, the XUV500 will be available in Mahindra dealerships across the country
Mahindra & Mahindra has announced its third phase of XUV500 bookings from June 8, 2012. And this time, the company will open reservations for the vehicle across all dealerships unlike the second phase, which was limited to 19 cities. To cope with the all-India bookings, Mahindra will ramp up production by another 4,000 units per month.
“It has been an incredible journey so far for the XUV500 and we are pleased to take the product national. We have been inundated with requests for re-opening of bookings not just from existing cities but also from cities where the XUV500 was not available. Now that we have ramped-up our production capacity significantly, we are confident that we will be able to take care of the growing all-India demand of the vehicle,” said Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra.
Launched in September 2011, the XUV500’s stylish and rugged looks have made it a huge hit among SUV buyers. So overwhelming was the demand that Mahindra sold out nine months production capacity during the second round of the booking, which ran from January 25, 2012 to February 2, 2012. During the second phase, Mahindra had received an overwhelming 25000+ booking applications from customers. Of these, only 7,200 finally got to drive out their XUV500 from showrooms.
The XUV500 is Mahindra’s first transverse layout, front-wheel-drive car that generates 140PS out of the 2.2 litre, mHawk common rail diesel engine. It is a four year research with feedback from customers across the globe. This helped the car maker understand what buyers expect from an SUV which resulted in winning many accolades in the country including the 2011 ET-ZigWheels Car of the Year award.
