Mahi Racing rider Kenan Sofuoglu had a fruitful weekend in Round 5 of the World Supersport championship at Donington Park with a second place finish that puts him in contention for the riders' title

After securing second place in qualifying, Mahi Racing rider Kenan Sofuoglu didn’t quite get the perfect start  and wasn't able to capitalise on his qualifying performance. On lap two of the race as British rider Christian Iddon collided with Sofuoglu pushing him wide, off the track at the “Melbourne" hairpin, due to which the Mahi Racing rider lost his position. Unfazed, the Turkish rider kept on pushing hard to gain back the lost position which he eventually managed to reclaim by halfway through the race. Once in second position he was able to pull away from the trailing pack of riders and concentrated his effort in catching up with the race leader Sam Lowes of Yacknich Motorsport.

But the gap was too much for the reigning champion and he crossed the finish line 11.105 seconds behind Lowes to take second place. Sofuoglu would be pleased with his effort as he had failed to finish the last race in Monza and it was important for him to score points to remain in the hunt for the title. Lowes currently leads the championship standings with 95 points 30 points ahead of  Sofuoglu but all is not lost for the Turkish rider as there are ten more rounds left for him to make a comeback. On the other hand Sofuoglu’s team-mate Fabien Foret had a disappointing outing as he finished the race in ninth place.
