My i1 Day Machdar Motorsports Campaign

Promoters of the i1 Supercar Series recently announced the launch of a nationwide campaign, ‘My i1 Day’, among school children with the primary objective to build awareness for road safety. The initiative will reach 3.27 lakh students and will have a four-hour session with a number of innovative and exciting activities.

Darshan M, CEO, Machdar Motorsports said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of ‘My i1 Day’ across schools in the country. We are initiating the program keeping in mind the dates of road safety week. With the increasing popularity of motorsports in India, it is critical that children are educated on road safety and driving with precaution. Machdar, being committed to keeping kids safe on and around the road, is now reaching out to schools to build awareness about Road Safety.”

Divided into four zones, the first Road Safety Session will educate children on adopting road safety measures with a 10-minute session that includes 25 children at a time. Post the Road Safety Session, children will undergo a test to receive ‘i1 Super Series Driver’s Licence’ and will also be given an i1 branded sticker, ‘My Dad Drives Safe!’. Zone three will have children being informed about the i1 Supercar Series, the various components of the SR3 Roadster, clothing options and helmet safety, different flags used in the race and their meaning, pit area and pit stops and series format and scoring system.  The final leg will have a flex of an i1 car silhouette where children will paint inside the silhouette. The paintings will be placed at the i1 circuit during the race and select few will be given access to watch the i1 Super Series live.

“The i1 Day is a great campaign initiated by Machdar Motorsports. It is in line with the FIA’s objective to promote road safety and sustainability at all levels in every country across the world. Our road cars have made huge steps forward in terms of safety equipment but both human driving behaviour and the road themselves need to be improved drastically in our country. Road safety education for the young population is the way to go and schools are the ideal place to start creating this awareness of how important it is to be safe on our roads. The motorsport community has a huge role to play and the FMSCI is glad to support a great initiative like this,” said Vicky Chandhok, President, FMSCI.

A motorsports league that is tailor-made for India and inspired from the “20-20” technique used in cricket, the i1 Super Series is totally based on these lines. The series will consist of 9 teams who will race in tracks located in India, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. Each team will be represented by two drivers and will compete for a $2 million prize ( ~ Rs.900 crore).
