Lotus, which is revered for its achievements in the world of motorsports and performance-oriented road cars, has announced its intention to join the world of premium motorcycles with the C-O1 and has even set up a motorcycle division

Lotus Motorcycles teaser image

The iconic British manufacturer of lightweight, exotic sportscars may not exactly be building motorcycles, but it is lending its brand name to this particular project and that itself makes this bit of news extremely exciting. The teaser you see here is what will become of collaboration between ex-Volkswagen designer Daniel Simon, the Holzer Group and car racing team Kodewa. Simon’s involvement should make the Lotus C-01 particularly interesting considering that he has also previously designed for Bugatti and was also the pen behind the stunning Lightcycles in the 2010 Hollywood sci-fi flick ‘Tron: Legacy’.

The motorcycle is being pitched as a high-tech monster in a tailored suit – expect it to be high on performance and truly exotic in terms of its styling, even harking back to iconic Lotus race cars as suggested by the black and gold livery as well. The paint scheme is also a tribute to Lotus’ current T128 Le Mans prototype race car which is produced by Kodewa who also compete with it in the FIA World Endurance Championship. In Simon’s own words, the C-01 will stand at an intersection of the past and the future and when you hear statements like those you can’t help but wait with bated breath. This is exactly what we are doing! Watch this space for more on the C-01 as it is revealed bit by bit in the weeks to come.
