Land Rover will unveil their new Discovery Vision concept car at the 2014 New York Auto Show

Land Rover Discovery Vision concept teased

The British carmaker has released teaser images of their new car, the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept, which will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show this year. Land Rover claims that the new car will showcase a new family of premium SUVs.

A teaser image shows a glimpse of the new car’s exteriors. The exterior looks a lot sleeker than any preceding Discovery, LR3, or LR4. The new Discovery Vision appears to have three-row seating with a sliding second row that can be partially folded away. The concept car is expected to feature the Discovery's traditional stepped roof with a sharply raked reverse C-pillar and a much more rounded appearance than the larger Range Rover models.

Shots of the interior show a high-tech dashboard that builds on the brand's familiar T-shaped dash board design and appears to be a full-length touchscreen framed by two thin chrome pillars. Below that is a new take on the Range Rover's rotary gear selector with a separate dial that presumably controls the audio, heating and nav functions in a similar manner to BMW's iDrive.

Gerry McGovern, Design Director and Chief Creative Officer for Land Rover, says, "Discovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand. It is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base. We have created the Vision Concept to share the essence of Land Rover’s new age of Discovery and to debut a new, compelling, relevant design direction that connects on an emotional level with customers of today and tomorrow."

Reports suggest that the Land Rover Discovery Vision will be offered with a choice of existing petrol and diesel engines. The company may also introduce new Ingenium range of four-cylinder engines when the final production version of the car is revealed early next year.
