A few weeks back, Jaguar Land Rover dealerships commenced bookings of the new Discovery Sport. The British car maker has now launched the Freelander 2 replacement at a starting price of Rs 46.1 lakh (pre-octroi Mumbai). First unveiled to international media in September 2014, the Discovery Sport is the fifth Land Rover model to be sold in India. The car has been launched with a 2.2-litre SD4 and TD4 engines. The TD4 unit makes 150PS of peak power and 400Nm of max torque. At 190PS the SD4 unit makes slightly more power, the torque rating also improves marginally to 420Nm. Land Rover will also offer the Terrain Response System on some variants. Both these engines will come mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Land Rover claims mileage figures of 12.63kmpl and 12.97kmpl for the TD4 and SD4 respectively. The top-spec Discovery Sport HSE Luxury trim will be offered only with 190PS and 420Nm engine option.
In terms of features, the Discovery Sport will come with the works. To ensure its off-roading capabilities, it will come with the Terrain Response System, Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Hill Descent Control (HSC). Terrain response, 9-speed AT, HDC offered standard. Adaptive dynamics with MagneRide only on top variant. On the inside, the Discovery Sport is quite versatile giving buyers an option of a 5+2 seating. In terms of safety features, it will come with ABS, airbags on the inside as well as for pedestrians, Traction control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and more. The Land Rover Discovery Sport will be offered in 4 variants – S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. The SUV will be offered with seven body colour and roof colour options. The Discovery Sport base variant gets fabric seats and it will skimp on the 5+2 seating option. In the Indian market, the Land Rover Discovery Sport will compete against the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.
