Exaclty a year after its global unveil, the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be launched in India on September 2. This new SUV will replace the aging Land Rover Freelander 2 and should be priced at about Rs 45-55 lakhs in India. Land Rover dealers across the country have already started taking bookings for the same at a token amount of Rs 5 lakh and have reportedly received a good number of enquiries and confirmed bookings for the same. Expect a good demand for the Discovery Sport as it goes up against competition like the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE, the Audi Q5, the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.

The new Land Rover Discover Sport takes styling cues from its more expensive cousins in the range and looks quite similar to the likes of the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. That said, the funky headlamp cluster and the typically Land-Rover front grille make the Discovery sport’s identity unmistakable. The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is also much lighter due to a large percentage of aluminum used in its construction. The signature side vents combined with the flared rear and front fenders give the new Land Rover Discovery Sport a ton of character. The integrated spoiler with an integrated brake light also looks appealing and goes well with the jet inspired tail lamps. At the rear, the large dimensions combined with the twin exhausts make it look modern and appealing.

The new Land Rover Discovery will most certainly get a diesel engine option and might also get a petrol alongside it. Although no definitive specs for the diesel have been announced yet, we assume the Discovery Sport will get the same tried and tested 2.2-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder motor with both 180PS and 255PS of peak power. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine will also 250PS of peak power but of course will not find as many takers as the diesel will. Both engines will be mated to the all-new 9-speed gearbox and will come with a permanent all-wheel-drive system.
