Just as it did with the Gallardo, Lamborghini has hinted that it will be adding at least five more variants to its existing line-up of the Huracán supercar

The Gallardo was the supercar that changed the fortunes for its Italian maker, raking in sales all over the globe and going on to become the most popular car in Lamborghini’s history. Therefore it comes as no surprise that its successor, the Huracán, has a lot to live up to, both in terms of reputation as well as sales.

One of the ways to do it – and one that many high-end carmakers routinely follow – is to introduce a host of variants of the same car, thus giving every potential customer exactly what they are seeking for, at the price point they are comfortable with. Lamborghini did it with the Gallardo and now they’re planning to do the same with the Huracán.

Speaking to Autocar, outgoing Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann stated that the Huracán family should continue to grow and could become bigger than the Gallardo’s lineup. Winkelmann hinted that “at least five” variants of the Huracán will be released, paving the way for the possibility that more versions of the supercar will be made for the duration of the Huracan’s life.

At the moment, the Huracán range consists of four models including the LP 620-2 Super Trofeo race car. The range launched with the Huracán LP 610-4 coupe, followed by the LP 610-4 Spyder, and the rear-drive LP 580-2.

The next variant, according to Winkelmann, is likely to be a Spyder version of the LP580-2, which makes sense considering that a coupe- convertible combo have worked out well for the Raging Bull in the past. But, after the LP580-2 Spyder, the possibilities start to open up. If Lamborghini upholds the Huracan’s status as the Gallardo’s successor, we may very well see SuperVeloce or Superleggera variants of the Huracán soon.

“In simple words, we want to cover lifestyle, fun to drive, performance, high performance and race," Winkelmann said.
