Driverless cars are being developed by many carmakers in the auto industry. Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is set to take a big leap and has recently announced its plans to launch a truck designed to run without the active participation of a driver. The German automobile manufacturer plans to introduce this concept in the market by 2025.
Daimler claims that its new Future Truck 2025 will be equipped with an intelligent Highway Pilot assistance system, which will enable the truck to drive autonomously even at 85kmph. Four radar sensors and two cameras will control the adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, stability control and lane-keeping assistance of the new Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025.
According to Wolfgang Bernhard, Member of Daimler's Board of Management and responsible for Daimler Trucks and Buses, autonomous driving will revolutionise road freight transport. He further states that with its Future Truck 2025 the company aims at opening up a new era in truck transport.
For now Daimler has constructed a single prototype of this truck. The company will have to comply with the strict regulatory laws before actually bringing this truck on the road officially. Daimler has not disclosed the pricing of this vehicle yet.
